Bringing Poetry to Life

Year 10 Literacy students at our Deception Bay campus had the privilege of welcoming award-winning poet, comedienne, and spoken word performer Anisa Nandaula into their classroom last week.

Anisa delivered powerful slam poetry performances that not only captivated our students but also offered a compelling insight into how poetry can be a tool for self-expression, identity, and social commentary. Her visit was perfectly timed as our students are currently exploring the theme of identity in their poetry unit.

This term, students will craft and perform their own slam poems as part of their assessment—drawing inspiration from Anisa’s work and the courage she models in sharing her story. We’re incredibly excited to see how our students harness their voices and creativity in the coming weeks.

Thank you, Anisa, for inspiring the next generation of storytellers.
