At Kairos Community College, we are proud to support initiatives that not only help our students grow but also enrich the broader community. Recently, our Certificate II in Volunteering students took part in the Sunshine Coast Look for a Book program—an inspiring initiative made possible through Sunshine Coast Council’s Community Grants.
The Look for a Book program is all about sparking a love of reading in young children. By encouraging families to explore parks and playgrounds across the Sunshine Coast in search of hidden books, the program brings joy, adventure, and literacy together in a fun and accessible way.
Under the guidance of our dedicated Campus Administration Officer, Jane, who volunteers her own time to support this program, our students contributed in meaningful ways. They prepared donated books by placing them into protective bags, along with helpful instruction leaflets for eager young readers and their families.
But the learning didn’t stop there. As part of their coursework, the students also researched five local parks where the books would be distributed. This task not only counted towards their volunteer hours but gave them valuable experience in planning and community engagement.
We extend a big thank you to Jane for her ongoing support and for helping our students engage with such a valuable cause. Through this project, our students have seen first-hand how small actions—like sharing a book—can have a lasting impact.
At Kairos Community College, we believe in creating opportunities where learning and community spirit come together. This project is a perfect example of how our students are making a difference while gaining the skills they need for the future.
