We are delighted to share that, as of April 2022, the kitchen and administration office renovation project at Kairos Community College’s Caloundra campus is now complete!
Thanks to the generous support of a$39,000 Stockland Aura Community Grant, we have been able to transform our outdated kitchen into a modern, functional, and energy-efficient space – perfectly aligned with our sustainable practice goals and commitment to student wellbeing.
A Community-Driven Project
Our vision for this project was to create a safe, hygienic, and accessible space where our students could learn valuable life skills and participate in Certificate courses in Hospitality. The renovation has not only enhanced the physical environment but also strengthened our ability to support young people in their educational journey, particularly those who face significant barriers to learning.
The project included:
- Full kitchen renovation with new cabinetry, secure storage, and expanded bench space
- Installation of energy-efficient appliances including ovens, cooktop, and rangehood
- Extension of the kitchen into a dining area for shared meals and practical learning
- Upgrade of the shared administration office to provide more functional desk space and secure storage
- Replacement of the front door for improved security and risk management
All works were completed by local contractors during the school holidays, ensuring minimal disruption to our learning environment.

Impacting Lives Through Practical Learning
The upgraded kitchen is now fully equipped to support our students as they explore healthy meal preparation and hospitality skills. We have already seen an increase in student engagement, both in formal Certificate training and in informal daily use, with students enthusiastically preparing breakfast and lunch for themselves and their peers.
This project also supports our ongoing commitment to sustainability, as energy-efficient appliances help reduce our environmental footprint and operational costs.

Strengthening Community Connections
We are proud to share our Caloundra campus with the Caloundra Scouts Group, who will also benefit from these upgraded facilities for their volunteer programs. The renovation has further cemented our role as a vital community hub, bringing together young people, families, and local organisations in a shared space dedicated to growth and learning.
Looking Ahead
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Stockland Aura for believing in our vision and supporting this project. The impact of these improvements will be felt by over 130 individuals, including students, families, staff, and our valued community partners.
At Kairos Community College, we remain committed to providing fee-free, high-quality education in an environment that is safe, inclusive, and empowering.
We look forward to continuing to develop opportunities that foster resilience, learning, and community spirit.
