Kairos Grit, Spirit, and Community

On Saturday 7 June, our incredible Kairos Deception Bay tribe took on the 2025 Kokoda Challenge, entering as three dedicated teams. Together, our young people tackled the tough 18+km hike with grit, endurance, and courage from start to finish.

“The hills were definitely harder than I thought they’d be, but having my team there to push me when I wanted to stop made all the difference. It felt amazing to finally cross that finish line together.”

From the early morning meet-up, to prepping meals, travelling together, conquering the course, and sharing a well-earned dinner after dark, the whole day was a true reflection of what it means to be part of the Kairos community.

A massive thank you to our young people for their teamwork, resilience, and spirit, and a heartfelt shoutout to our educators and parents for their support, not just on the day, but in all the behind-the-scenes planning that made it possible.

“I learned that I’m much stronger than I give myself credit for. Finishing those 18 kilometres showed me that I can handle the tough stuff as long as I keep moving forward.”

“It wasn’t just about the hike; it was about the laughs we had along the way and supporting each other when things got difficult. It made me feel really proud to be part of the Kairos tribe.”
