At Kairos Community College, student wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to share that, thanks to the generous support of a $2,000 grant from Stockland Aura‘s 2022 Community Grants program, our Caloundra campus is now home to a vital piece of life-saving equipment – a new defibrillator in a secure, lockable case.
This defibrillator is a crucial addition to our campus, ensuring that our students, staff, and community have immediate access to emergency care should the need ever arise. With several students managing heart conditions, including serious and closely monitored cases, having this equipment on-site offers peace of mind and enhanced safety during daily activities, including sport and recreation.
Prior to receiving this grant, the nearest defibrillator was located at the Caloundra Aquatic Centre, across a busy main road. The distance presented a risk in emergency situations, where every second counts. Now, with a defibrillator readily available on campus, we can respond quickly and effectively to any cardiac emergency.
Head of Campus, Luke O’Sullivan, shared how this grant has positively impacted our community: “Having easy access to a defibrillator means students can engage in activities like sport and cross country with increased safety and confidence. It also means we are not reliant on external facilities in emergencies, and we are better prepared to care for our students.”
The benefits of this grant extend beyond our school. Our Caloundra campus is also used by the local Scouts Hall and is in close proximity to the local pool. Having a defibrillator onsite ensures that these groups, along with our own school community, have increased protection and support in emergencies.
All Kairos staff are trained and qualified in First Aid and CPR, including the use of the defibrillator. This ensures we are ready and able to act swiftly if needed.
